People

The majority of the people in the Cayman Islands originate from European descent, African descent, or a combination of both. It is estimated that 1/5 of all Caymanians originate from European descent and mainly from Britain. Another 1/5 of the population consists of people from African descent; 2/5ths of the population are of African and European descent with the rest of the Caymanians being of other mixed ancestry or are expatriates.

The dominant religion of the Cayman Islands is the Church of God with other Christian beliefs following closely behind. The culture of the Cayman Islands is strongly influenced by the ocean. The Cayman Islands are home to a multitude of marine traditions such as fishing tournaments, Catboat regattas, and beach activities.


Food

The food in the Cayman Islands mainly consists of seafood or island foods such as local fish or coconuts. Due to the islands close proximity to Jamaica, some of their food is directly influenced by the Jamaican food and culture.
